Reply:If this is for a business don't use a free email account like Yahoo or Hotmail. Domain names are practically free these days and there is really no reason to NOT have a branded email address. You don't even have to have a website, just setup a domain based email account.





For example go out (right this second) and buy THEVALETUK.COM, i just checked it and it's available. This would be a good start for you and much more professional than something like valetuk5289@yahoo.com. If you are going to use email in a professional situation, there really is no excuse to use a free email account. People will instantly think you are smaller than you really me be (or want to be!).

Reply:I think it would depend on your business. If you are a small contractor or retail store, or if you don't work with the general public much, then it shouldn't really matter what you use. If your business is something more on the professional side (i.e. insurance, lawyer etc.) then it would probably be a good idea to have a website as well as a fancy email address.

Reply:if this is your first time trying to develope clients then I think you should try to get a sub account with your current service at home but for your business usually it's free or very low cost,especially since your a small business.Using a free service could let someone hack into your files and try to mess with your system and all could be lost. Reply:I own a small plumbing company and honestly we gross close to two million a year and I use a yahoo account for my business. Its easy and free. If your business was based on the internet then you might want to consider getting a fancy domain email, but if it is just a side business then you really don't need the extra expense of an email account. Reply:There are several ways to do this; however you will have to check with his business' IT manager to find out. Many businesses are on Microsoft's Exchange Server which provides a simple web interface to log-in to email (sort of like logging into Yahoo mail); also you could potentially download email with a pop account (you will need configuration from IT manager). Find out what your business email infrastructure is first.

This is what many of us do. We buy a web site domain name for our business. For example, my website domain name is www.nightcats.com. My web host offers a service, which is part of the package, which allows me to send and receive email using my domain name. That is a Yahoo safety measure. If you write a long mail for example and something goes wrong causing a crash, you can go to the drafts folder and you'll find what you have written so far. When you send the mail, the draft should normally be deleted. If you want to save a draft to use it repeatedly, all you have to do is push the shift key when you send your mail. If you send your mail without pushing the shift key and the draft did not get deleted, you should go to this online help form and describe your problem:

It sounds like you have your personal mail preferences set up so that it will automatically do that. You should be able to open up your preferences to change it if you want to -- you will be able to tailor your mail so that your inbox will be checked every so many minutes or just a couple of times a day and all kinds of things like that. You can save everything you send out in a Sent box, or turn that feature off so that you don't. Check it out...

If you aren't holding down the CTRL key and it is doing it, try holding it down and see if it doesn't do it.

You'd need the permission of the other site's web master but if you made your link look interesting, you would probably have people join.

Don't know the contact email...but if your domain has been renewed for another year and you did not cancel that charges will be valid and no refund will be issued. The domain renewal can not be undone. The domains are on auto renew to ensure the domains renew and not be lost. If you do a whois look up of your domain and it shows that it has been renewed then getting a refund will be tricky.

How do I revert to Beta version of Yahoo small business Email?

If you have already upgraded to another version you will most likely have to go and remove the program altogether then re-install the version you want to use. Once you upgrade you cant really un-upgrade it back to an alder version without removing it completely. Just make sure you have the install file for the one you want before you uninstall the other.

If you are in your mail options, do you not have a Management Tab, then below that are options for:


Mail Addresses, Filters, General Preferences, Signature, Vacation Response and Announce Email Address. If so, click on Signature and go from there.

2 .Net


3 .ORG





Try to stay away from .ORG as it's still mostly considered not for profit organizations.

I mean does it better if you use Yahoo, gmail, lycos for free webmail trying to get business. I am not a small business but trying to get some consulting work.

It depends on what your business is. I'll try to give you some examples and thoughts, but the answer will vary based on your particular "consultant" business.





- If you are a company where your physical location is key (tax shops, financial services consultants, etc.), a webmail email account would be fine. Your business will be driven more by your presence at that location, and having a yahoo or gmail suffix will not usually matter to your clients. More important will be your signage, advertising, location, etc. If it's not cost effective for you to have your own company email, then it probably wouldn't hurt you to start off with a webmail address.





- If you are working from home, without much face to face interaction with clients, and your email and webpage are your primary sources of contact, then I think it is important that your contact information conveys your company name, and your company name conveys what you do. All of your marketing and advertising and points of contact should be in sync to convey a professional and knowledgeable image. I would not recommend using a webmail account in this instance, if you want to be taken seriously in this day and age.





- If you are making most of your sales or are gaining most of your clients in person, then your personal appearance will matter most. What email address you have on your business card won't matter, if you're able to close the deal and deliver value to your clients. A webmail would be fine in this instance.





For all of the above, if you are building a website, then I'd go ahead and get an email account that matches the website. Most domain registries come with a few email addresses, and wouldn't cost that much to add if they don't. When you're talking about $5-$10 a year, it would be worth it. Oh, and one last thing...don't have your email address a mile long. It needs to be something fairly easy that your clients can type in, without any wacky spelling for them to mess up.





If you're just "trying" to get some consulting work without doing much, and don't want the extra expense of something without any sales yet just in case nothing works out, then it won't hurt too bad to start with a webmail account (I would go with Yahoo or GMail personally). If you can't get anything with a webmail account, then chances are you wouldn't do much better with a company email. However, if you do land a client, then I would spend the small amount to get a company email.





I hope this helps. Without knowing your exact situation, it's difficult to tell you exactly what I think you should do.

We can have our e-mail access taken from us if we abuse this by getting and sending chain e-mail's or by having a ton of personal, not work related e-mail's sent to us. What you are asking to do is not allowed unless you have it cleared through the State Department/DOD.

They do not have access on military computers, for safety reasons to private email websites, etc.


Anything sent to the military addresses is property of the Government and can be read. If you are flagged for spam then you will be blocked from their network.

Why e-mail? I own a business and get tons of e-mail each day. I devote about one second to anything I don't recognize. I think most business owners do the same. On the other hand, I spend a lot more time on a well written short letter that is addressed to me, spells my name and the company name correctly and tells me concisely what the purpose of the letter is and what the writer wants. I get very few letters so each one stands out.





Whatever you do be very honest about it. If you are selling something then state it in your letter. If your purpose is as you state and you write to me and then ambush me with a sales proposal when you are here I'll toss you out on your butt so fast you won't know what hit you. Furthermore, you will have forever established your reputation as being less than honest.

That shouldn't happen. If you just cancel your personals account, it shouldn't do anything with your mail acct as they are two separate services provided by yahoo. Who said that you will lose your email privileges? That doesn't sound right.

Yahoo is most likely blocking your old email account. Not just the account but the whole email server from sending yahoo accounts email. They are doing this for spam reasons. Your past host can contact Yahoo and try and get the server authenticated but there will be no luck.

As for an account to just receive emails from people you work with it would be appropriate to set up a separate account just for them. Apparently Yahoo is updating all mail accounts, during the past couple of weeks users had problems with their private accounts, now users with business acounts are complaining. Here is what I suggested for private accounts - it helped in many instancies and will hopefully also work in your case:





A possible intermediate solution: log in, when it says "URL can't be found" go back to yahoo without logging out. Then click the mail button on top right. Any new messages should drop down. Right click on a message and select "open in new window".

When i had my Blackberry through Cingular (Now AT%26amp;T) they had a feature in the BIS that allow you to download emails from email account. I had a AOL and Yahoo account forwarded to mien.


The simplest way is to use OutLook or OutLook Express (My choice} and use the Message Rules to forward to your current BlackBerry's email address. That way you know they are forwarded and if for some reason it is not they are waiting on your ISP's server or your computer at work\home.

Reply:In Outlook 2003 you can set up a rule to forward all email to your personal account. Go to "Tools" then "Rules and Alerts". Open the "E-Mail Rules" tab. Click on "New Rule" and then click on the radio button for "Start from a blank rule". Highlight "Check messages when they arrive" and click "next". From there you just have to select from the appropriate choices. (It will be easier to complete the process if your personal email address is already in your Outlook address book)

Email etiquette: Is changing the color of the font to make emphasis in business email wrong?

This guy that works for me consistently changes the color of the font of statements he wants to emphasize to the color red. This is absolutely driving me nuts. It occurs in every email corrispondence the guy sends out. It could be just one sentence and he will change the color of part of it. It wouldn't bother me if this was personal email that he was sending to friends or family. But it is business coorispondence the he is sending to customers and internally to other departments and peers in his department.





I think it is unprofessional because it makes the recepient feel like he thinks they are not smart enough to get his point. I'll mention as well that most of his emails are lengthy... perhaps the reason he feels the need to draw attention to his point by changing the font. Have you ever encountered this? Do you think it is unprofessional? Why?

This is what I have as my default signature on my email, and use it to sign off on all correspondence. I am an executive assistant, so I have to be very professional at all times (3 piece suit to work, yay!), and it's what I have always been taught is best to use in an unfamiliar business situation.





Gramatically, "best regards" doesn't really fit - "kind regards" is a bit better, but it's a little too friendly for something that is technically business. Unless of course it's a contact that you are always corresponding with, in which case "kind regards" or "thanks" would be fine.

We had this problem too. I'm assuming that you're in the new Beta Yahoo! mail. If not, the following steps will still work, but you'll be put back into classic mode temporarily just to make the change.





1) Click on options / Mail options


2) Click on accounts


2a) This is where if you're using the beta, it will put you back into classic. This is okay, you'll be brought right back to beta once you're done.


3) You will now see a listing of your email addresses/accounts. Select the one you want and click edit.


4) You are now on your signature page and there is a check box at the bottom for whether or not to include your signature on all items.

In order for your Small Business Email to work, your Name Servers MUST be pointed to yns1.yahoo.com and yns2.yahoo.com.





As Yahoo! does not offer access to static IPs for MX records, this is the only way to work it. You might consider using an A Record pointing toward your other site if they'll allow it, although they, too, have to provide you with a static IP.

Reply:In some mail services they can do this service, I believe yahoo does, and I think it is in preferences. ( Options /mail options / preferences ) Even if you can forward the old E-mails to the new E-mail account, your clients will need to be made aware of your new E-mail address. The only way to do that is to contact them with the new address. The same goes for your business cards, new ones will have to be printed and given out again.


Also remember once you close your old account you can not use the old ID name again. Hope this helps

Reply:Yahoo is still having some problems at the moment. If you look you will find lots of people cannot send/receive/delete mail at the moment. I was advised to uninstall Javascript and then reinstall the latest version. This worked for me. If it does not for you then apparently it's only in the all new version. Try returning to the Classic version for now. I am also told that the mail is in fact there in your box and is being sent. It's simply invisible in all new mail.
