How can i set this sheet up in Excel so that multiple users can use it, add text and save at the same time without locking out other users from saving and amending it.
I want to send out a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet by email or as a shortcut to various Business Areas?
You can't for the following reason:
User A makes 45 changes.
User B makes 1 change.
User A saves 30 seconds before user B.
When user B saves, what happens to user A's changes that are not in user B's copy. They are written over wasting all of user A's time and forcing him/her to redo everything.
Reply:we can not it exactly the same way as u asked.we can try in some other manner. generally we can go for batch processing which banks used to follow in previous (go with this process if you really wanna go for it)
Reply:true that you cannot have multiple users amending/saving the same file concurrently for the reasons given above esp by john k (yea like the avatar).
way to get around this is to use versions. send it out in a format which marks any amendments and labels amendmets with the users details. do this by going to tools protect/share worksheet and select the suitable options.
or you could all have an online meeting to play about with the worksheet - but you would all have to do it together at the same time, not some now, some later cos that would defeat the exercise. do this by goig into the tools online collaboration option
Reply:Not possible. You need a far more intelligently crafted system, namely an online database. Hire a programmer!
